1950 Ludwig & Ludwig Deluxe

Actually...I picked her up along with a beat up single-head Leedy tom and a 16" Apollo (MIJ) floor tom all for $100! I had to buy the snare extensions (which cost me $50) and I sold the other 2 toms for $50...so the net cost was $100. Still not a bad deal when I spell it out like that.

That's a beauty! I attached a couple pics of my 1941 Ludwig snare. Looks to be identical to yours, with the exception of the badge. Inside of mine is marked "4110" which I am told means October 1941. This also matches my 1949 Leedy bass drum 14x22!

What kind of rims are used on these drums, do ya know?

Thanks...and yours is a beauty as well! They sure look identical, don't they? Even the strainer is the same (although mine is missing and I can't find it anywhere). You are correct that 4110 is October 1941 and as for the hoops...they should be what you have on there now...nickel over brass double-flange stick choppers.

Yea i was thinking they were nickle/brass. It's time I it up again. What did you use on your rims and hardware to clean and shine 'em?

I used Cape Cod cloths, but that only cleans them and polishes a little. I've seen other guys on the forum buff their nickel out to a high luster using a buffing wheel and a light compound (very carefully, of course). Maybe if you post in the 'Restoring Vintage Drums' section, someone can help you as I've not tried it. The nickel hardware on my Leedy kit looks about the same as this snare, so I left it un-buffed. I like the way it looks.
