Hi, Everyone
I just finished a total restoration of a 1940's Leedy set and thought I'd share some photos. I acquired this from a fellow forum member who got it from the original owner. This set is unusual in that it is finished in a very "non-Leedy" marine pearl. It looks like what Gretsch was using at that time. Because this set was made shortly after World War Two ended, it's likely that this was the only wrap available. This was also a period when some companies were using some non-standard wraps like "Marine Green" and some very thin wraps in red or blue marine. All speculation of course. This is definitely 100% original.
The snare drum has a date stamp of 0846 (Aug. 1946). The other drums have no dates inside but all have white interiors. The snare drum and 9x13 have the older "script" aluminum version badges of the war era. The badges on the bass drum and floor tom are the early aluminum version of Leedy's last badges (a final brass version was used from about 1948-50).
Also of interest is the fact that there are no tone controls.
When I got this set, it was pretty clean but I decided to strip everything down and clean and polish everything.
