1937? Ludwig L&L Bass Drum

Loading...

I recently picked up a Ludwig Bass drum 26" and I believe to be about 1937 (the tag is silverish and I related it to the tags that I saw on the site. The condition is poor. It's original wrap is pearl, but it looks as if a tarnish might have spilt on the drum and cause it to bubble and melt. I looked in the inside and there is a number stamped 4103. The t-handles and dampner are all rusted, but seem like they could be cleaned up. The shell overall looks pretty good. Would anyone be able to tell me a rough estimate for this drum...as I said, right now it is pretty rusted and the wrap needs to be redone, so I am trying to figure if I restore it, will the value decrease.

Thanks.

A bass drum like that and that size is not high in value. Probably $100 or so in that condition, maybe less.

It would be rather expensive to re-wrap it and or restore it due to the size of the drum and there is not a demand for 26" bass drums.

Personally I would clean it up the best I can and probably leave it the way it is. If you plan on using it for gigs then you might want to spend the time and money on the materials to make it gig worthy.

Other then that you will not decrease the value based on your description.

So I think I am going to clean it up and re-wrap it. Once it is in better condition, would it be worth selling? I bought it for $100 and I know just a wrap would cost another 100 or so. Would this drum be able to sell for over $200 or did I make a bad call purchasing this drum?
