Thanks... The pitting on the lugs was quite deep. (the hardware is chrome, not nickel) Sometimes you can smooth it out on the wheel. Didn't make too much of a difference this time. They have the red rouge compound at the shop where I use the wheel. It works great when there is only fine pin-point pitting... 1 pass makes em disappear.

I too have a special Ludwig snare drum like yours, only mine is a 1950's Leedy and Ludwig "Standard" model mahogany snare drum, with nickel Imperial lugs.. It's my prized snare drum..
