Another addition to the Ludwig snare collection. A 1930's Ludwig & Ludwig Super Sensitive with a beautiful mahogany shell. The drum came complete and I only found one non-original screw on a snare guard. The original hard case and calf heads were also included. To my knowledge, I'm the 3rd owner and the drum has spent much of its life packed away in storage. The drum only needed a light cleaning and some heads.
One interesting note - The case has slots that the extended snare guards drop into. The drum is actually suspended by the guards inside the case. I noticed this caused a hairline crack in one of the tube lugs where the guard was attached. A poor design, considering the weight of the drum.
Two questions for the experts - (1) Is there a way to narrow down the date? (2) The four tension rods to which the snare guards attach are wrapped with a heavy paper to protect the threads... was this the way the drum was issued, or was this just added by a previous owner? Thanks.
