1930's BDP Radio King Set, I'm torn!

Loading...

I can get what looks to be a late 1930's Slingerland Radio King set in original BDP for maybe $1200.

It has a 28" bass, 16"floor tom w/basket, 6" mounted tom, 7 1/2 x 14 snare w/engraved hoop. It also has the original bass pedal and double cowbells w/mount. It might have a cymbal mount as well.

Some minor restoration will be needed and the bass drum needs a new resonant head.

Should I buy it? or will the upkeep be to costly and rare for the reward. It will get played in clubs eventually.

I would do it if I were you. There are all sorts of RK parts for sale if needed. I too am looking for a 30s or 40s set of RKs and stupidly passed on a set for $850. They are a part of history buy I also plan on playing them out and enjoying them. I don't think you'll regret getting them.

It's not an awesome, awsome price. I mean, 28" bass with a 6" rack tom ? Y'know ?

But, if it really IS a factory matched kit...that's pretty darn rare so it's not a ripoff either.

If it were me, I'd feel better if I could talk the seller down to about $1050.....

I bought it for a real good price and the tom is 10" not 6" like I posted. pics of it are here:http://vintagedrumsets.com/showthread.php?t=6414

Madeye, I just noticed the previous owner decided to forego the snare bridges and was using oversized wires instead. Hope you correct that issue, the original hardware on those is uber-cool.

I'm new to Radio King stuff but I thought all the hardware, snare wire included were original except for the lugs which I have on the way from another board member.
