192X ludwig Standard Snare-Muffler?

I have an offer to buy this snare.

The seller said that the 3 holes are from a muffler, which he has.

I did not believe that the Ludwig Standard ever came with a muffler.

Any advice. This is a 10 lugger with solid maple shell.

Also is the price fair?

Thank you

Price is fair if you're seeking a player drum.

It's a refin w/recut edges with three extra holes, (all of which you know), so it's not really a collector drum? These changes will make it more difficult to sell, "down the line", imo.

Hey Ken - not sure if you saw my reply on Reverb - I attached a the page here from the 1933 catalog which shows Standards coming with a muffler. These holes are not extra and I have the muffler which is the same as shown in the catalog. An impeccable job by Chris Heuer who is the best of the best - the refinish is gorgeous and the edges are perfect and true to spec now. A great 100 year old drum that has been given new life.

Three holes are extra when snare drums with that strainer were made in the 1920's.

If the drum was a 1930's drum missing a tone control, why doesn't it have a post 1928 strainer?

Three holes aren't extra - the strainer was probably swapped at some point the last 90 years since it was made with an earlier Ludwig Professional throwoff. I have the muffler just not installed.

If it was a 30's snare drum it would have an "hour glass" strainer, not a 20's strainer....was the point I was making?

Are you saying they replaced a 30's strainer with an older strainer?

Whatever the case may be, good luck!

I think the throwoffs you are referring to have the same hole spacing. The later "hourglass" 30's Professional model throw has the same hole spacing as the prior Professional throw (later bumped down to being called the Pioneer.) No extra holes on this drum
