1926 Gretsch Snare Drum

I'm thinking I might sell this drum.....haven't decided yet. I haven't had it appraised - I might do that.

I did see one in a museum online last year.....one exactly like this.

What would a fare price be for seller/buyer for this drum.

It is in excellent condition. I did nothing to it other that put new calfhide heads on the original wood flesh-hoops. I even saved the old torn hides (stored in zip-loc bag) in case someone - for whatever reason - would want to see then. Everything seems to be original. The shell is about 3"x13 or so and has that alagatoring texture (aging?). Twenty Six in Roman Numberals (XXVI) are etched into the underside of the wood counter hoops.

That is cool. It almost looks like a leather wrap. Love the waterproof snares. Perhaps that snare should be in museum, too. I know I'm not helping your decision, but thanks for posting a sweet historical piece.

Oh, by the way, coincidentally, I just started a vintage drum museum and I'm currently looking for donated pieces. If you're interested. :rolleyes:

Haha....Nice try Bill. Thanks for the response though. I sent an email to Ned at VintageDrums to see if it's worth having a professional appraisal done. I don't really know what I have here other than it's a 1925 Gretsch snare drum. It works fine....the snare throw-off is simple and is functioning and the drum seems to be intact. Ya - the finish looks like leather - I thought that when I bid on it (eBay). I never thought I'd really end up with it. I had a price in mind and thought for sure a collector with lots of money would out bid me for sure. Who knows....it might not even be worth what I paid for it. But - it's a nice little drum and sounds pretty good. I was just playing it a few minutes ago - ya - it sounds like a snare drum alrightD' Drummer

You'll have to check around for folks who actually appraise musical instruments, the run of the mill appraiser won't give you real numbers, they have no clue (or interest in) as to the value (sale or insurance) and worth (historically) of something like this.
