That's the good stuff there. Those did not come with a badge. That hole is simply an air hole. The "badge" is the Ludwig name that it shown on the shell itself.

Nickel should clean well with Cape Cod Cloths. I would not over-clean it. Nice that the hoop clips are in good shape.

I just picked up a similar one today. Mine is a bit more "seasoned."

It is a nickle plated shell, it cannot be cleaned like chrome. If you plan to sell it, don't touch it! Sell it as is!

If you plan to keep it, clean carefully with 100% cotton cloths and Flitz. It can be found in Ace Hardware.

The strainer looks to be broken, or at least needing repair.

The strainer is missing a section from what I see. These strainers can be hard to find and pricey.

Am I correct on assuming this is either a 1923 or 27 professional? Anybody know what it should sell for?

Are you seeking a value on the drum because you are planning on selling it? I ask because I would be potentially interested in it.

Needless to say any value I might suggest could be a conflict of interest. There are sellers who put unrealisticly high prices on these drums. Condition, completeness and originality will factor in. The standard "check eBay sold listings" is a good starting point for valuation.

It's hard to tell, but this looks like a two piece shell. If you put it up for sale you'll want to confirm this and include that information. You can tell by looking at the seam on the interior of the bead.

Hey Dan, I appreciate your honesty. Obviously as a buyer you want to get it for as little as possible and as a seller I would like to get as much as possible. I just want someone who will be fair and honest with me. I will try to provide as much information as possible to be accurate with the condition and what exactly I have. I can't seem to nail down the age 100%, as there are a few things that seem out of the norm. For instance the engraving says "Ludwig, Trade Mark" as opposed to Ludwig, Chicago".

I can't find this anywhere on my searches.

I am interested in selling it and don't expect to get a high retail value, I would be happy to give a buyer a good deal as I value a "bird in the hand". Please let me know what you think a fair price would be.

That's a nice 5x14 Standard. 8 lugs make it desirable. The stamped logo looks correct for that drum. The missing part of the strainer holds it back, but there are options to get it playable.
