1920'S Ludwig snare experts wanted.

Hello, trying to ID this 4 x 14 Ludwig snare.

just got in my hands and was wondering a few things.

rough date?

originality?

worth?

I think it is NOB but not sure. did they have COB then?

I'm guessing age is around 1922.

pictures are the way i got it.

just concerned because it is in such nice shape that it can't be all original.

if you look at the tension rod picture the rod that is slightly longer I have 11 of and one shorter. which rods should it be? are those original?

no stamp or etching on rims or shell.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Your drum is all original minus the short headed tension rods, it should have the longer headed ones. also does the shell or the top rim have Ludwig engraved into it? the pics are hard to tell but most likely Nob, not Cob.

I'm thinking re-plated in chrome..

thats why no Ludwig next to the strainer..filled it right in...

Years ago,I got 2 or 3 of them done like that....

I even remember seeing some in a gold tint someone did..

your first pic of the tension rods shows the longer headed tension rod that is the correct one to have, not the shorter headed tension rod, but I may retract this statement once I figure the year model, the 9 338 strainer is what will date your drum but the pic is not high enough quality for me to tell, here look at my 1924 model

Worth? I have almost the identical drum bought from ebay in the middle of last year. Starting bid was $150, which was me. Quite amazing that there were no other bidders. When I bought it, both heads were missing and it was very grimy. My 2c: it's worth around $200 to $250. 6 luggers just don't bring big bucks.

I was thinking the rims where not original, I have seen some of these without the ludwig on the shell.

should rims be straight rim or single flange rims?

I guess it depends on the age, correct?

was not thinking someone chromed it.:mad:

is there a way of telling between chrome and nickle other than with aging and oxidizing?

i got it because I've been wanting one and love the way it looks and the history.
