I would think that the '09 date is the patent date and the bottom date is when this particular version was manufactured.

I agree with you, it is an artistically designed mechanical thing for sure. I noticed the main spring coils are tapered near the top... Not sure why? Maybe because it looks cool, or maybe because it rubs less against the toe of your 1920's shoes/boots? That is an extra machining step for sure, so it must have had a reason behind it. There is even a spring under the hoop clamp arm so it stays open when you slip it on the hoop, that is a feature some of my modern pedals lack.

Nope. Both the dates are patent dates. They had multiple patents on that pedal due to the revisions at the time.......Conn produced that pedal well into the 1930's after they purchased Ludwig & Ludwig from Senior in '29.

So I would say its at least from 1925 onward.

Howdy, This model is sometimes referred to as the "Improved Original". It is similar to the original 1909 pedal but has a couple of differences, such as the date marking, heel plate shape, and the yoke. They are indeed works of art. Joe
