1920s Ludwig metal shell finishes???

Seems like we've seen a few of these lately on ebay. What finish were these drums originally? Nickel? Black or white enamel? Gold?!? Or is this just deteriorated Ludwigold? The hardware on both drums appears to be copper plated but what's up with the shells? Mr Curotto, your thoughts?!?

Well, by the looks of the shell on the left photo I'd say it's buffed to brass, now what finish it actually was is the trick here...could have been white enamel (Inspiration Model), or black enamel, maybe nickel plating with the ArtGold finish, or the shell is engraved and it was once a DeLuxe (Black Beauty) but the shell doesn't appear to be engraved...The photo on the right is a bit easier to decipher; looks like it was once Ludwigold or possibly even Stipel Gold...my vote is Ludwigold
