16" V.s. 18" Floor Toms Last viewed: 7 minutes ago

I recently did a session with a 22/13/18 Slingerland kit and the engineer said that 18 was his favorite floor tom that he has EVER recorded. I would have to agree. It sounds amazing. Coated Amb on the bottom and Coated Emp on top.

It actually fit very well with the 13. It wasnt a giant leap between the two tone wise. For rock at least I think the 18 will do you just fine!

Just my 2 cents!

go for the 18". I was a bit skeptical at first when I bought my kit - 20", 18, 12 BDP transition badge luddies but no more...they sound great and from what I understand, this combo is more desirable b/c of the sizes

just my 2 cents!

I have a 16X18 and 18X18 Gretsch from the 80s. There is a big difference between them and a 16. Right now, I'm using the 18X18 with both a 14X14 and 16X16 on the floor. I think the 18 is a bit much for most types of music except as a special effect type of drum. The sound is fantastic though. I would go ahead and buy the 18 and get a 16 also when it shows up. Nothing wrong with having choices and flexibility.
