I suspect it was in the '70's sometime - when "power kits" went with larger sized and multiple rack toms.

I do not really think that smaller 14" toms replaced a standard 14x14 in so much as ...headbangers.... 'needed' more than just a 12" and 13" up top.

Basically...most 10x14 and 12x14 drum shells one finds which are pre-'70's era....were either marching toms or marching snares originally.

Thak you Jaye.Sorry for my english.I ment,for example something that today is called fusion set,20-10-12-14,where 14" is on a holder on cymbal stand.I find,here on Ludwig cat scans something from 1988-89,where 2 toms are on separate stand and no floor.That is what I ment.When the first set like that I mentioned 20(22)-10-12-14 come?And does it belong too vintage era?

I don't know if it's the first, but the very well known story goes like this;

Steve Gadd wanted the floor toms mounted on a stand for better angles and setup convenience. Yamaha built him the drums. This was mid 70s.
