Or, from the same site, you could pick up a 24" deep 14" in a 5 ply and make three drums out of it for 79+ shipping. A 14X14, a 5.5 snare and a 4.25 piccolo, all maple. Now that is what I call a deal!Keep on PlCool Dude

Yes I know it doesn't add up, until you take into account waste from the blade....

I agree...I like 14 FT's, too.Just for anone's info, quite honestly...I have pretty much given up on even bidding on vintage American 14x14's anymore. You can actually get a vintage-style reproduction shell from aitwood.com for not a lotta money, around $100 + shipping....in either mahog/poplar/mahog or maple/poplar/maple.They are quite awesome....astounding reproductions, really....maple re-rings, nice thin shells. You just need to be handy with a drill.....

Absolutely...I just plucked a nice 24x16 8-ply off of eFlay which I am gonna make 2 bass drums out of.

But the only thing to remember is, Keller 5-plys are like the old 3-plys as far as thickness. 6-plys are really not much thicker.

Keller 8-plys are the equivalent of the old vintage 5 and 6-plys.

So either of those alternatives, 5 or 6-ply cylinders cut down by you.... would give you a Gretsch or Kent-type thin shell.

In order to get a re-ringed product out of those, you'd have to cut the shells and re-ring 'em yourself. Certainly doable, and yes it'd end up less expensive than their complete 'vintage' versions...but very time-consumingCoffee Break2.

Yeah, I've been thinking about going this route beacuse a 14" RB floor tom in Gold Satin Flame that isn't totally trashed out would probably cost me what I paid for the entire set, assuming I could find one. (It's a 12/12/16/20 but I really just want a 12/14/20).
