I picked up a MIJ snare drum on eBay recently. The drum was missing a t-rod. I thought it would be easy to come by - I have dozens of t-rods laying around. NO - for some reason this drum takes 1/4" diameter t-rods when everyone else in the world uses 3/16" diameter.
Does anyone here have a t-rod they can send me?
They look like they could be aluminum???

Most American t-rods are measured 12-24.
Number 12 screw, 24 threads per inch.
MIJ, metric.
drumfactory has metric rods.
Take yours to the hardware store and determine what thread they are.

I had a 60's MIJ snare drum with 8mm tension rods. Yes, they were about 1/4" thick! I don't recall the thread pitch, though. See the attached picture that compares it against a standard 12-24 tension rod, plus pictures of the snare drum. My gut tells me it might be tough to find these older 8mm rods. Even those MIJ drums that used metric rods were of smaller diameter.

That looks like my snare drum and my t-rod. I might just make one up myself - might be easier.

Those lugs and certain MIJ bass drum lugs are the ones that usually have the "sort of" 1/4-20 threads. Star drums that have squared up Slingy lugs.
Solved the problem for now - and works like a damn.
I just switched out the MIJ lug nut for a Gretsch lug nut and I'm using a Gretsch 3/16" x 24 (standard size - it's called a 12-24) Gretsch t-rod.
I'm not looking for the MIJ 1/4x20 t-rod any longer.
