14 rack..14 floor

Not my first choice but how would you tune these 2 drums for general purpose playing?..I think the rack has potential to tune higher and I believe the floor would be limited to how low it could reach...but, I don't care for that distant thunder floor tom sound...This could be a situation where the heads make a big difference??

the rack is 14x8, the floor 14x14

Tune them both high and only loosen one of them at the reso head. They would have to accent each other.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

I would try a Remo coated Ambassador on the rack tom top and bottom, and a Remo coated Powerstroke 4 batter on the FT, with a Remo coated Powerstroke 3 on the bottom.

Something about those coated PS3 and 4 that makes them growl. You can tune them both as you normally would, but the heads will make the pitch separation very balanced.

Was 14x8 a common size for British toms back then?
