hey all,

late night impulse purchase on ebay the other night. i've bought what looks to be a 13" x 5" slingerland mid-50's snare. supposedly a radio king, but with a 3 ply shell. 3 point strainer. am assuming some sort of student drum. has stick chopper hoops and a muffler.

any thoughts would be appreciated. will post pic when it arrives.

I just recently picked up a mid 50s Slingy 13 WMP SD, though mine's got the clamshell strainer. Cool drums!

awesome! thanks guys.

it has the dog tag badge, so i thought that was before the leedy purchase. was there a name for that particular drum aside from piccolo? am assuming that is wasn't considered a radio king.

can't wait to hear it. and to share some pics when it makes it's way here.

One of my favorite customers gave me this drum when I retired as a manufacturer's representative in the music business. It is a 4x13 Slingerland snare that sounds like a drum should sound. I am pretty certain that the drum tech who worked on this snare drum used some original Radio King parts and some other Slingerland spare parts from various eras. Whatever components he used in making this drum work beautifully. The store in Houston is a vintage drum lover's playground. Rockin' Robin is the place where I would hang out after working hours whenever I was in Houston for business. I still stay in touch with the folks there, and visit them when my wife andI travel to Houston to visit friends. This is the snare drum that will be with me forever

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
