Personally, my favorite snares have all been 14" snares. I have played on a few 13" snares that sounded alright, but nothing that has stuck out as being incredible. In my summation, 13" snares have more of a "pop" than a "crack" to the attack. I never really dug that sound. The Pork Pie 13" patina brass snare is a winner, though.

I don't own one -- yet -- but I do like how they fit in between my knees, being a smaller guy.
