13" Concert Tom Conversion

Loading...

I recently acquired an old 70s-ish 13" Slingerland concert tom shell in ok condition but the outer finish is a lil rough.

It's fairly a fairly deep shell, got it super cheap and I've been thinking about wrapping it and having edges cut on the bottom to convert it into a snare.

I originally bought it just to get the 13" hoop for use on my old Slingerland sound king kit, so the shell is just sitting in my drum closet/harem.

Any thoughts on this (i.e. cutting it down shorter to maybe 7x13, etc.)?

I would convert it to a double tension 13" tom, does it have re rings in it? also you'll have to cut a snare bed + the bearing edges. your looking at some$$$ to go the snare drum route. unless you can do all this yourself!!!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Recently I've had a gentleman locally doing the woodwork for me, but a close friend's father-in-law is a master woodworker. I may have to try pulling a favor :)

I don't really need any more toms, so having another snare around could be cool.

If the tom mounting hole wasn't there, it'd almost be tempting to do a combo piccolo/standard snare out of the one shell since it's fairly deep.

I'll try to take some photos after work today to help get some info on shell construction / drum series.
