12" Ludwig, easily choked.

Have you tried using a RIMS mount? *ducks and runs*

No, really, it gave me a lot more sustain when I took the tom mounting hardware off my 12" shell. I tried putting it on a snare stand but that made it much more thuddy. I tried the RIMS mount with the tom mount still on the shell, and that didn't really remedy the situation. When I finally took that tom mount off, though...BIG difference!!! The drum sustains more, and it doesn't choke up so soon. It still chokes up a bit when played really loud, but I think that's just part of the package deal you get with vintage 3-ply Ludwig shells.

Vibra-band! These are Ludwig drums. They are called Vibra-bands. RIMS would be wrong on such quality vintage drums. Only Vibra-bands should be used on Ludwig drums. Remember that name...VIBRA-BAND.

...this marketing stuff cracks me up...

Actually....an ORIGINAL RIMS could be considered correct since they came out in the mid 70's and Ludwig didn't come out with the VIBRA-BAND until a couple of years ago....Falling Do

As a side note....I've noticed odd size (13", 15", etc) seem to tune up easier than the even size (12",14",16", etc) drums do with Ludwig 3-ply drums....maybe its just me? Hmmmm

Reading your old post where you say the the edges are not flat. Straightening the edges and recutting would be needed.

If you don't have the tools needed (table saw, router w/bits), seek out a cabinet maker.

...I bought so-called "Vibra-Band" suspension rims for 12" and 13" '60s Ludwig toms from WW&BW on-line and not only look like RIMS...they are RIMS...just like the Gibraltar version I also bought for a 10" tom. Not only that but the 13 VB was missing all the rubber grommets altogether...in a factory sealed bag! And cost wise they are obscenely overpriced too. Am not impressed with them in the least... That was the point of the post. Marketing. What a joke.
