Loading...

Kit is 5 piece.. 6X14 clamshell snare, 9X13 & 10X14 toms w/clip mounts, 16X16 FT W 3 straight legs, & 14X22BD w/ 2 rail mounts and 2 Cymbal mounts....loaded. Snare is maple . toms & BD are mahogany w/ 2 1/2" maple re rings ..Was told that this was a Krupa kit....came with a Krupa HH too. Both mounted toms and the FT have no badges and no vent holes, The BD & snare have a gold oval Sling. badge. The FT has a diamond clip mount too........... My 2 ?'s are ...Is this a Krupa kit? and Why is there a clip mount on the FT? .........Asking the good Dr and all other Slingerland fans Thank you!!!!!

It's normal for the toms to not have vents or badges. Slingerland didn't badge toms until 1966 or so.

HERE is a 1959 Gene Krupa Ensemble 1N kit for you to compare.

Things that I'd be suspicious about:

[list]

[*] The clip mount on the floor tom. Vintage stands wouldn't be able to support a 16" tom, so I wouldn't expect a factory-installed tom mount. It's possible someone added the mount later, for use with modern heavy duty stands. It might also be possible that this drum started out as a concert tom and was converted to a floor tom.

[*] The 14" rack tom. 14x14 floor toms were available, but I don't know that I've seen a 10x14 drum from the 1950s that didn't start out as a marching snare.

Slings started getting badges LATE 1966.
