The gold set is way overpriced. I see sets similar to this going for much less. Like, well under a grand. I wouldn't buy this set based upon the horrendous grammar and punctuation mistakes by the seller. He sounds illiterate.

I have a Rogers set very similar to the 60's set; Red Onyx, with 12," 13," a 16" floor tom, and a 24" bass drum. It looks like a Londoner, but it was actually a very large set that was broken down to two sets. I got them for a song several months ago, from a guy In South Jersey.

Naturally, I'd go for the 60s set, and change out parts where needed. I'm not a fan of those mid-70's Rogers finishes. I was cleaning out a section of the basement last night and came across a mid-70s Rogers catalog that was all bent up, in bad condition. I tossed it in the trash. You can't keep everything.

Hey, thanks Josh. Appreciate the perspective on the HW. Some folks seem to prefer Swivomatic, but it does seem that Memri-loc present fewer problems overall.

Hey Bob

Thanks for the perspective. re: pricing on the Big R kit, do you think a bit of a premium might be justified on the basis of the the rarer finish and bass drum size?

re: grammar, etc, I noted that as well, but guess it might just be English as a second language.

Thanks!

The set labeled "vintage 60s" is most likely early 70s.
Everything I see points in that direction.
possibly 70/71 ... if those noses are original then probably 72
I would ask for interior tag pics ... they will tell the story.

replacing every collet nose on that set will cost you about $300 ... so pack that on top of the price because those cast noses are useless.

this set could be from the transition where "Holiday" shells became "Power Tone"

Great catch GV! Thanks, I'll ask for tag pics.

Thanks also for the clarification on the "collets". It does seem that sometimes when people say "collet", the mean the nose -- right?

In the 69 Rogers parts catalog it is identified as a "COLLET NOSE"
