Might be a very desirable finish under there if you're lucky. Mod Orange or Citrus mod were very unpopular in the 80's but now they are sought after. The "tacky" sparkle or Pearl wraps of the 50's 60's & 70's fell out of favor for a while but they're back now. Who knows what they thought they needed to hide.

they may just have really liked beige judging by the beige BD hoops. They maybe ripped off that horrible oyster black wrap and updated it with the lovely fake wood

Perhaps not the "home run" it might have been if it had been Oyster Pink or something of that ilk, but nothing at all wrong with WMP.

Hey, sorry to bump this but I have a few questions. It turns out that the floor tom has a different shade of marine Pearl, something darker. I'm eager to see what condition all the original wraps are in, but do i dare to take off the second layer wrap? Can it possibly be a bad done gluejob all around and i end up with just a mess? How do i do it, do i have to use heat? Might i tear up the original wrap as well? Do i take off all lugs? Sorry for all the questions.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

You will want to remove the lugs and other hardware to give them the proper cleaning once getting the paper wrap off.

Big job ahead of you my friend, but the results may be worth it.. I bought my '66 downbeat piccolo snare drum that was wrapped with a terrible white cortex wrap that was from the 80's..As i was prepping it to be cleaned and restored, i noticed a crack in the wrap..On closer inspection, i saw what looked like a yellowish "stain" or possible, stained wood.. To my utter shock and pleasant surprise, it was a perfectly preserved WMP wrap that yellowed really nicely.. This is probably what has happened to your kit..No worries though, as many new drum companies are making drums with that yellowed, weathered look on the drums to give it that vintage look and vibe.. You now have the real deal.. Congrats !

Just worried about not finding all the right places for the hardware once i put it together again, haha. Yeah, there's several cracks in the post fabric wrap and i can see that it has been yellowed and scratched, but that's on the spots where it has been revealed. The rest of the Shells might be perfect, who knows.

So, once i have taken Everything off and used a hairdryer (correct) and peeled the wrap off: what should i use to properly Clean the original coating, and are there any more easy-to-do-at-home stuff i should get done while having the chance?
