So I’ve recently purchased a (Sound Percussion) used kit at a reasonable price. No name hi hat cymbals and a crash/ride with hardware shown. I clean it up nice, put new pro batter heads all around, new snare heads and wires and a new felt beater. Kit sizes are 10,14,18 / 13” snare.

Kit:$50
Heads and parts: $113
Evans G2’s on toms
Evans Heavyweight snare batter, Evans clear snare side and wires
Evans Gmad bass batter and bass drum felt beater.

My question is, is putting the effort of refurbishing this kit worth it?
Having $163 invested, labor to clean up. I’d figure to ask $250. Which I think would be a hard sell but fair to me for my efforts. (throne would not be included)
If I left it all stock, I may get $100. Didn’t have to do anything with it.

18" kits always in demand. Looks better than a Mendini kit.
If it had a 12 or if someone puts a 12 to it They could play that kit anywhere.

there was a 20/12/15 SP in Black across the street from me (in a haggle Hut) was tempted. Your 18" I'd say is rare; I'd find a 12" and keep that set for myself.

I have actually bought a couple of those SP 12/15/20 kits for students. They sound surprisingly good!

Hi Olimpass!

While Sound Percussion drums are normally considered "entry level", they can still be made to sound very good! The sizes of your drums, with the more rare 18" bass drum, are not for everybody and can limit the appeal and sale. Still, I think your asking price of $250 for everything should generate some interest. You might even have to settle for just a bit less, though. Believe me, you won't be the last person to spend time and money to make a kit better, only to find that many times you're lucky to even break even in regards to cost! I know, I've been there!

I found a 3pc Sound Percussion set, 12/15/20, some years ago at a thrift shop for only $25! After re-wrapping the kit in a beautiful "Dark Abalone" finish from Jammin' Sam, adding some better heads and tom holder, building a matching snare drum...and eventually swapping out all the Pearl-style lugs for Gretsch-style lugs, I've got way too much invested to even consider selling it! Well, that, plus the fact that the kit resides at my girlfriend's house and she won't let me sell it!

As to your kit, go ahead and list it locally and see what happens!

You are correct, sir! I'm not allowed to sell it! It is sitting in her back room, all set up with vintage flat-base Ludwig stands and Zildjian cymbals. The attached pictures are from a few years ago and don't show the new Gretsch-style lugs.

What's interesting about this Sound Percussion kit is the lug layout for the drums; 6-lug bass drum, 5-lug floor tom and a 4-lug mounted tom! If I ever lose those tom hoops, I'm really in trouble! I built the 4.5x14 snare drum using a 10-ply Keller shell. Sounds great!

What I like about my Sound Percussion kit is the fact that the bass drum and floor tom are 8 luggers. The 10” tom is 6 lug. The snare, not so good is a 6 lug.
Also found out Guitar Center is the parent company of Sound Percussion.
