Default Question - "Time Capsule" Supraphonic package
Hi all,

I just picked up a seemingly-time-capsule Supraphonic snare "package" with original "tombstone" case, WFL snare stand, drum key, Leedy 21 Super Balance sticks, and a well-worn copy of the "Moeller Book."

The snare and stand are in near-mint condition. No pitting/acne, not even on the steel lugs. White felt muffler, original heads and snare wires. Badge number is 254042, which puts it late 1965 or early 1966. I cannot find a date stamp.

What intrigued me is the "drop gate" bottom hoop, which I assumed was COB. That would be "too early" for a 1965-1966 Supraphonic, right?

Well, both hoops attract a magnet! This seems to indicate that Ludwig made some steel hoops with the "drop gate" before switching to the flat profile.

Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Regards, Marty Black

Here you go. A refrigerator magnet clinging to the snare gate hoop.

And here is a pic of the butt side, with refrigerator magnet attached. Re: my comment about no pitting/acne on the "steel" lugs, my brain-****.
