I'm wondering if any of you can help me date this drum. As you can see, the tag says Cleveland and has a 4 digit serial, but I know that's not necessarily an accurate measure. The Clockface is elongated, and I thought those didn't start appearing until after 1967, so I'm thinking maybe it was actually assembled in Dayton? I've included some other pictures as well, as I'm sure there are other clues I'm overlooking. Thanks!

Butt plate is the new re-issue version. Not sure about the rims as the pics are too close. Rogers rims had ears that were sharply down-turned. My dating chart says around 1965.
Great drum though. That brass shell is perfect for playing latin music, as it gives off a really good Timbale sound. |

Irrespective of saying Cleveland or Dayton on the tag inside the drum, the Ohio-made drums were all made in the factory in Covington. The business office was in Cleveland before it moved to Dayton.

Elongated clockface started in 1964 I'm pretty sure.

Right, of course. I meant Fullerton. I’ve heard that when they moved there they still had a surplus of the older tags they sometimes used.

Here are a couple more, less close up, if that's helpful. Thanks!

The top hoop is not a Rogers, but the bottom could be.
Here is a pic of my Powertone (#14664) from 1966: |

Yeah, I can see the difference, thanks. That's a beautiful drum you've got there. And I'm sure it sounds as good as it looks.
My White Whale is that in a green sparkle to go with the rest of my kit, but in the meantime this COB will do just fine! |
