Hi guys just a few questions about what to do with this drum kit.
It's a 1968 pearl tiger eye in abused condition! As you can see it is in bad condition and I am tossing up whether to attempt to restore it or not. All the bass drum lugs are there but only about 1/4 of the lugs for the toms still work. Rims all exist but are pretty rusted. And will need new heads. The tom shells are both in really bad condition. So any info on where to get lugs, good rust-remover, rims, shell repair techniques, tiger eye rap.... anything! All info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Jack. ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() This wrap is pretty awesome and from what I read around here pretty sought after. I can't imagine finding it to wrap your tom, but there are guys around here that could recommend the when are where of how to get close. I would check Precision Drum Co and Walopus for wraps that are close. There may be others. I'd get some 3 & 1 oil on those lug nuts. Let them sit for a day or two. Then see if you can get them to free up. If not you can replace the interior guts of the lug and get new tension rods. If it were me, I'd go for it. Yeah it would be a challenge - but think of the reward of bringing that back to life! But, that is up to you if you're up to the work and the investment. That being said, that bass drum looks scary. Is it wet? I'd get a solution of bleach and water (start with 4 to 1 - that's 4 water to 1 bleach), apply it with a spray bottle and get it in the sun. See what happens. Don't soak it but you want to kill any mildew spores in the wood. You could then paint the interiors white and it will hide all past sins. btw - I have seen the occasional tom on ebay in this wrap. Another option. Let us know what you end up doing and best of luck with it either way! -Doug

Thanks, shortyedwards, I've looked for wrap on walopus before but this time I found some that is quite similar to tigers eye..... http://walopus.com/product/strange-b...rata-drum-wrap
I'll get some 3&1 but the lugs are just really done, they just need to be replaced. As for the bass drum, it is actually in the best condition and not at all wet, but that might work for the floor tom. Cheers, Jack |

I wouldn't go ahead with that type of project, especially since the wrap is very hard to come by..Also, the invested time and money to find parts, etc, will be a daunting task.
You could try and find a tom on ebay as shortyedwards said, or you can just sell the floor tom and kick.. It's not uncommon for these kits to be missing a floor tom, and you'd be surprised how many were actually missing one.. If it were me, i'd sell..This is way too much work for a player's kit.. Whatever the case, good luck with whatever you decide to do ! cheers, Rob Last edited by human71; 04-11-2017 at 02:26 AM. |

Yes thanks human71, I am almost definitely going to sell it but will have to be somewhat refurbished.
I also have the snare which is in a LOT better condition and its stand. I might actually try sell on here. Cheers, Jack Last edited by Jackaramalingling; 04-11-2017 at 06:19 PM. |

I think BumWrap could make you a close copy of your wrap. Finding old Pearl / MIJ parts for drums is not an expenive propostion. Of course, you have it in front of you, I don't.
I would not strip it though if you don't want to tackle it. I would sell it osmeone else willing to put in the time, money and energy to bring it back to life. |

Those specific lugs, the ones made between the "Slingy" style and "Battleship" lugs...pretty scarce.

Any lug with that hole spacing that sorta copy Slingerland lugs should work, and be easy to find on eBay. I also recommend Bum Wrap.
