Default Surprise 26" Vintage A Zildjian

Just received an old A ride from the 60's in the mail today. The seller, an orchestral drummer, advertised it on his own site and Facebook as a 24, and for very cheap so I bought it.

Laid a tape measure across, lo and behold it's a 26! Wobbly, too. Gonna play it at a jam tonight and see how it sounds, it's in nice condition with a thick crusty patina.

Nice find. I've been on the hunt for a vintage 26" Avedis. Even better that it was a surprise size for you. Enjoy it! Would love to see a pic if you get a chance.

That does look nice. And it's nice that it grew on the way to you. I've had the opposite happen with a 21" old A which was only 20" when it arrived. But it sounded very nice so I didn't send it back.

I'd be interested to see a close up picture of the stamp on this one if that's possible.

And here's my report of weights and prices (for both 24" and 26") so you can see where yours sits in the mix:

The sample sizes are still small, but some information seems better than internet rumor and anecdotal evidence.

That's very cool, thanks for providing this. This one weighs in at just over 10 lb (!), my scale says 4561 grams. But it definitely has wobble.

I took it to a gig last night but it ended up being a low volume thing so I used my Agops. This thing roars, and it's probably very loud. I haven't had a chance to really open it up yet to find out. I'll probably sell it, as I tend to like more subdued cymbals.

I think the stamp indicates 60's, is that correct?

Yeah, I've had a couple 24"s shrink in the post (I'm sure they measured across the top, over the bell), but I'd love to have one that grew!

How can you tell from that stamp that the cymbal is from the 60's? My cymbals are from the 70's but the stamp appears to be the same.

The 70's stamps are usually no 3 dots up top and do not have the vertical alignment of the e in made and the h in turkish.
