Default 1920’s Ludwig & Ludwig factory painted drum head
Sorry if you’ve already seen this drum posted on a seperate forum or group but I’m still seeking any info on it that some of the experts may have! I just acquired the drum a few days ago. The head is really the stunner on this piece and thanks to the help of some friends. I was able to track down some original catalog photos showing drum was indeed factory painted. For being 100 years old the head itself is absolutely incredible. The drum itself has some crazy mojo with the paint and gold plated hardware! I’ve had numerous offers for it in the short time I’ve owned it but I truly have no clue what is fair. Definitely a once in a lifetime piece! Any info or estimated value is welcomed thanks!

Re selling the bass drum; The Black Beauty bass drums are often 27 5/8" inches in diameter, so replacing torn heads is difficult.
I've given a couple of these drums away over the years.
I've sold a few painted heads from 20's and 30's.
I got 300-400 a head, depending on condition and rarity.

That looks to be the case with mine. If you look at the measured picture it is just shy of 28’. I’ve had several offers of $300 on the head just not sure if I have the heart to split it from the drum for that. It’s in pretty darn close to mint condition unlike the drum itself.

Have you ever thought of using the bass drum to display the head?
My pal Randy Rainwater turned an old two headed 14"x28" bass drum into a 4"x28" single headed bass drum which is a frame for a painted head I wanted to display. You would have to put lugs on the shell so you could install the T-rods, claws and hoop.

I’ve spoke to Randy a few times on some of the Facebook groups seems like a great guy. I just picked up the drum earlier this week so I haven’t thought too much about it’s outcome yet!
