Vintage MIJ Resto
Just finished this restoration. This one was a LOT of work. Started with naked mid 60's era MIJ shells, 3 ply with re-rings. Star, Pearl, Hoshino, who knows. Had to cut the bass drum down to 13 inch depth due to shell damage, then re-leveled and recut all bearing edges to a good vintage round over and had to fill in quite a few holes. I could not find a disappearing cymbal holder so I made one from scratch with a steel rod that I had to make the threads with a tap and die. Then re-wrapped with a good thick premium wrap in diamond white pearl. I think it turned out ok.

I think those turned out more than ok! They look great and I admire your ingenuity. With the right heads and tuning, those mid-60's MIJ's can sound really good. Nice work!

Nice. Does look like a lot of work, but surely looks worth it too.

Re: Vintage MIJ Resto
Mr. Mozart. Great Job. Did you fabricate the cymbal arm mount holder that bolts to the bass drum?

Re: Vintage MIJ Resto
Yeah more or less I guess. I mean I didn't smelt it from iron ore but I did use a grinder and a tap and die to thread it.
