Hello,
A mate has one of the extremely rare (and beautiful) Eugene Geisler/ Slingerland snare drums with Aluminium shell. As only one of the tension screws (and it's counter part for the hoop) was missing and apparently impossible to find a spare part, I offered to make one replica in fancywork. I will report the progress here to encourage others doing the same, in order to save similar unique drums and transfer them back to complete and playable condition. 1st photo: This is the snare drum with the missing tension screw and 'nut' part at the bottom hoop. 2nd photo: Original parts on the left and the raw material (a former counterweight from a cymbal boom arm and a tension part of a German drum used in playgroups) on the right side. From both I will carve out the replica parts. 3rd photo: First steps: the original screw has (I assume) 3/16" BSW thread. But I have only metric possibilities, so M5 was the next possible thread size for me, which I have cut out from the tension part, and I also cut out a slice of the boomweight, foreseen for the 'nut'. Next steps will follow next week. Ralf

Hello again,
Next steps done this week. 1st photo: Started with the hexagonal head of the tension screw, then lowered the diameter of the 5 mm washer (they usually have a much bigger outer diameter). Draw the outer shape of the 'nut' onto the metal piece, out of which I was going to make the 'nut' and drilled a 4.2 mm hole into it. Finally added the 5 mm thread to it. 2nd photo, of today: Tension screw: ready. I then roughly sawed out the outer shape of the 'nut' and started rasping off material at the top side. Final works will be done after the weekend. Ralf

Danke, Green Glass Drum!
To settle the story: Attached please find a photo with the added 'new' lug and screw (marked). The owner is more than happy to have a complete EG snare drum again. Cheers, Ralf

Really well done. Nice narrative of what and why you did what you did.
