Had 3 at one point. The COB belonged to Joe Harris. Still have that one and the LBP. All fine examples of the Shelly Manne model.

I'm a tad late getting to this party .. because .. I just finished the restoration on this 1965 Leedy ( SlingerLeedy ) Shelly Manne 8 lug COB snare drum. I have been looking for this specific model/year for quite a while! Shelly was playing this model for the most part back in 1965 with his quintet. The first time I heard it, I wanted one! The COB models "seem" to be a bit harder to find than their wrapped brethren ... at least it seemed that way to me when I was looking anyway. The 3 point throw had to be "rebuilt" as the years of use took their toll. The main "slider pin" that controls the wires being raised or lowered was sheered off. The only thing holding it in place was the tension of the wires! NO ONE has parts for this throw today .. so .. I sent the pin and slider plates to my buddy down in Florida. He is a Master Machinist, and well ... you know the rest. He machined the "pin" out of SS .. way better .. than the original. Got it back together .. and .. the throw now works like BUTTER! Now I have full adjustment of the wires and can lower them as well as back them off to just "kiss" the bottom reso head. The result? OMG!!!! This drum is as responsive and sensitive as my Fibes snare drums .. plus .. the COB shell gives it some real "bite". What a beauty! The condition of this one is near mint as the pics will show. Amazing for a 57 year old ( this year ) drum! It will be played/gigged! Hopefully you might ENJOY!

Tommyp, that's a stellar looking drum. May I ask how you narrowed the date to 1963?

slingerfan!
I had a feeling someone might ask about that, and OOPS! I meant 1965! I have made the appropriate change in my post. The date came from the original owner. I am just the 2nd owner of this drum. The drum was purchased in 1965 for his birthday apparently. He has had it all these years, which is one of the reasons .. outside of the throw needing repair .. that it wasn't overly damaged, and cleaned up as nicely as it did. 😎

Tommyp!

What a beautiful COB Shelly Manne snare drum! Any chance that you have pictures of the repaired strainer part? I love the minutia!

Hey Mark!
Glad you liked! It is indeed a BEAUTY! To answer your question .. well .. we are cut from that EXACT same piece of cloth. I did indeed take pics of the throw prior to repair. Was the best way to show my buddy what happened and what I needed machined. I shall attach for your perusal! Pic four shows the culprit.
