Vintage 1930's Beverley Dual Action Parallel Brass Snare Drum
This originally started out as a Beverley Dual Action Snare Drum from the 1930s. I have found what information I can on it below from Mike Dollar Drum Website: 'The Beverley catalogue from 1938/9 boasted of their double parallel action ‘Dual’ brass-shelled snare. It came with a convex bead in the centre of its shell, spun-over edges and was available plated in nickel or chrome with self- aligning, double-ended Imperial nutboxes and two parallel action snares. Dual was also available with a 3/8” wood shell and there was a single parallel-action version of the brass drum succinctly called ‘Parallel’. Both versions could be fitted with a unique foot-controlled throw-off which was advertised as being ''ideal for rhumbas''. Incidentally, the catalogue also informed the punter that he had the benefit of no less than a six-month guarantee!' Over the years, as the lugs from the original snare were weak and not made to last, it has had the later Beverley Cosmic 21 Lugs put on in place of the early lugs. It has also the other components of the drum removed, but still kept, to make it into a more practical snare and does fit modern 14" heads. The original parts have been kept with the snare drum and are included in this sale, please see photos, however I am unsure if all the parts are all still there. The hoops are both the original die cast ones. The snare drum is in excellent condition for its age, as you'd expect it does have some light surface wear but I think this only adds to the age, history and quirkyness of the snare drum. The Drum is 80 YEARS OLD!!! The snare works perfectly as is, the throw comes on and off as it should. I have dismantled, cleaned and polished the snare and the chrome. This is an extremely rare and unique drum, there very few remaining have only seen one other on the internet when doing my research. I have seen someone who had the original lugs recast and remade into more sturdy lasting ones, I can let you know if you wish where I found this. I am welcome to offers. More photos available on request. Full Listing Here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1930s-Beve...torefresh=true Last edited by hellojacob; 03-22-2015 at 04:40 PM. |
