Default Dancing Barn
I don't know about other areas where you folks may be located, but in New England barn dances with rock bands on stage and Covid-spreading crowds dancing in the jammed-in spaces was very common in the 60's when I was coming up through. We recently had a bit of a reversal with a dancing barn. In fact, one day the guy doing the work said he wasn't going to show up because of the high winds! Fortunately, I had removed the drums. It's back down on a new foundation now and I'll put the drums back in next season.

Hey Dan,
I love your barn - it's got a lot of character and should be good now for another hundred years ! Your Rogers BDP kit is just killer !

Your barn makes me homesick - I grew up in upstate NY. Some of my early gigs were at barn dance place. About 5 years ago I reconnected with an old bandmate. He sent me these pics that I had forgotten about. Only pics I have of my first kit. A 26" Ludwig BD with wooden lug snare and ST. I think the FT was an old marcher - the details are all fuzzy.

Anyway thanks for your dancing barn post. It sent me off to la-la land thinking about the "good old days"

Doug

Great photos! Thanks for posting those. I really like seeing the stuff from that era. There was a barn in Tamworth, NH where I danced for the first time in my life and kept going for a long time. It actually had an impact on wanting to play the drums because people really got into dancing. There was another one near Province Lake on the ME/NH border. I'd love to have some pictures like yours, but alas, it is not the case.

Yes I've thought about that many times! I did buy a $20 cassette recorder in 1975 that I used on a few gigs to get some rather rough recordings.

In 2007 I bought a digital Zoom H2 recorder that I carried in my stick bag I would use at rehearsals and gigs. I found the H2 to be a great learning tool to analyze and help improve my playing. If only I could have had that little H2 for those 60's barn dance gigs ... wow

A couple of years ago I tried to pull together some of these recordings and create a kind of synopsis of my playing history on different projects for my website. It was a lot of work but rewarding and priceless to me.

Thanks for your comments on the pics !
Yes those were the days when I dreamed of fame fortune and lots of girlfriends ! lol
I sold that old white lacquer kit when I bought my new Ludwig Burgundy sparkle kit in early 67 which I still have.
Where did all those years go ?
