Would anyone have reviews and/or information on this snare?

It is apperantly a 5.5x14 1960s Leedy Chicago 48 made in the SLINGERLAND factory. I've read that they were basicaly slingerland drums at that point.

Any confirmations on this or additional information would be great.

Thanks

Yes, from the Slingerland ownership period. Strainer and lugs are unique to Leedy. Appears to be the Shelly Manne model. Yours is no earlier than '63. Nice drum.

Definitely a Shelly Mann snare. Slingerland era Leedys had the same Slingerland shell, hoops and tension rods as Slingerland drums. Leedy specific, but exclusive to the Slingerland era Leedys, double ended lugs, Leedy strainer which was a holdover from before Slingerland bought Leedy. Slingerland grommet and Leedy badge. According to the vintagedrumguide.com site the Chicago 48 badge started in '60 but the exact date may be in question. Definitely 60s and not 50s.

Adding to thin shells comments, the extended butt plate is also a Leedy part that Slingerland used on many of their top line snares after the acquisition. Slingerland historian Dr. Carl Wenk claims the Leedy 48 postal code badge was used '62 and up. The OP's pictures are admittedly small and blurry but the interior wood and lug fasteners suggest '63 or later.
