how many of you guys still play real rock and roll
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp
once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
What do you mean by "REAL" rock and roll? (Sounds like a biased opinion waiting to blow up and upset people with differing opinions, like "does anyone still play REAL jazz?"). And, why is this thread all about peoples' drum kits? Rock and roll is about the player, not the instrument...Coffee Break2
Well I knew it would be just a matter of time till someone wnated to start a ruckus lol dude chill it is a just a fun thread and it is my thread and since i am a old, cantankerous , duse on really lousy meds i will keep this civil.... :) notice the smile...... ? ok what i mean is i ,me , do not consider what is being played today as rock and roll i do think the best days of R&R was in the 60 through the late 70's now this is just my Opinion and really does not mean much but hey it is my thread right? OK so back in the day most R&R kits were pretty good size but there is no certain size i was just curious OK?
Now today it seems most folks like small kits and use double pedals and all sorts of tech stuff, nuthin wrong with that it just ain't my thing give me a guitar player, a bass player and a couple of marshall stacks and i am ok....here is a kit i gigged over 40 years ago....

I'm not trying to start a ruckus, nor do I need to chill. It's just an observation. It seems like "fighting words" to discuss a certain era of music as "real", and thereby discounting other eras of music as being legit. Now, if you would have titled the thread "How many of you guys still play rock and roll from the 60s and 70s", that's a clear question without an embedded, pointed statement against rock and roll from other eras. (FWIW, I was raised on 90s rock, but prefer 60s and 70s rock myself...) I was just curious about what the original poster referrd to as "real", and how a thread about PLAYING immediately turned into a thread about big kits...??? Anyone have any YouTube links to videos of you playing "real rock and roll" on your kit of choice? That would make this thread stellar!
Nice! I like it!

We play Beatles, Stones, CCR, Hendrix, and Zep among other '60s and '70s bands. We also reinterpret some Motown in a heavier vein with a fantastic female vocalist. I'm probably the weakest link in the group.
