I think they would also paint other scenic images for the customer as well.

Shouldn't the bass drum be finished in Ludwigold? It appears to be white.

Shouldn't the bass drum be finished in Ludwigold? It appears to be white.

And shouldn't the hoops be painted gold if they're original? It's hard to tell from the lighting in the pictures, but the hardware does seem to be Ludwig's "De Lux imitation gold". Could this drum be painted white over the original Ludwigold? And is the Ludwigold finish different from the Golden Flash Pearl finish which was also offered?

A note about the painted bass head. I've seen several examples of this "Mountain and Lake" scene that at first glance, all appear almost identical as if they were printed or silk-screened, but on close examination, the subtle differences in the details show that each is a unique original painting. Because they almost seem identical in how each tree and rock is placed, I've always wondered if all the artists were simply copying a master print provided by Ludwig.

My question is, should I even attempt to remove the white paint if possible or just clean it up as is? A couple of the tension rods are in bad shape and missing a handle. The painted pic head has separated a tiny bit from its hoop in one spot like a dry rot crack. The batter head is cracked as seen in the pic from the bass drum beater. What are some things suggested I should do for this drum. All info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The term "Flash" is just Ludwig & Ludwig's name for gold sparkle or silver sparkle.

The white paint should come off OK but there is always the risk of the finish coming off, as well. I suggest trying some paint remover in an inconspicuous spot. I have successfully done this on a Stipelgold drum. I think Ludwigold may be more durable.
