Re: Vintage Ludwig bearing edges

I may be wrong, but all this talk is about the angle on the inside of the shell; I've always thought the bearing edge angle referred to the outside of the shell, where the head rolls over the edge. ...

Haha; I first read it like LeedyBDP, but then re-read it as bosLover understood it....marko

Re: My Christmas Present

This is a great kit--really like the black lacquer, the sizes, & the rail mount. I'd love to gig it for a nite. Happy for you.......marko

Re: Ever see this before? 2 badges on bass drum

I was thinking the same as O-lugs; if they drilled the spurs wrong, they realized it before they mounted the rail & cymbal mount. The spurs have something funny going on--they're close to the...

Re: [B]1939 WFL 7 x 14 TWO-TONE (BDP/ROSE/BDP) TWIN SENSITIVE HOLLYWOOD SWING MODEL [

Mike, this is a great-looking drum. I've never seen a bdp/rose wrap before. As far as the pearl wraps go, I separated the layers on some bdp that i stripped from a shell; it was years ago, so i...

Re: Is my Acrolite really 1964?

Nice Acro. The lugs have never been magnetic, & the shells have always been seamless, except for the textured 1st generation ones....marko

Re: Gig Time

Those look really great. "Keepers" for most drummers. You should hold on to them for a while. ( I know how often you shuffle thru different kits).........marko

Re: 1969 Ludwig super classic

If it were all original, i'd prefer the WFL; it'll sound as good as the others, but the "collectible factor" you mentioned doesn't figure in as much. Seems like they would all work. Post some...

Re: take a look at this really old gretsch

Beautiful wrap. Wonder why they cut thru it like that. Beefy cast hoops, & deep snare beds.....marko

Re: Question on spring tension - Ludwig 1124 Atlas hi hat

ID4F, this should be pinned at the top of the resto page. Seriously. Excellent work. I've got a couple of these that need an overhaul like described. Check in with me in 6 months & see if I've...

Re: Wrap Fading 1964 Ludwig

Damn! That's a beautiful wrap! Gotta give Ringo a lotta credit--there were a bunch of choices, & he picked a beauty. Your kit's gonna look sweet....marko

Re: For leftys...

My Rogers Swingtime kit has the mounts centered front to back on the bass, so turning them around leaves the tom & cymbal mounts in the same place....marko

Re: For leftys...

I turn all my kits around. At first, I didn't like the look of the telescoping spurs on the wrong end of the bass so I added a 2nd pair to one of my Club Date kits. But I have too many to do that...

Re: Shipping Vintage drums overseas

That really sucks, Longjohn. It's too bad that a relatively affordable hobby ends up being out of range for most drummers down under...marko

Re: Shipping Vintage drums overseas

Pretty sure there's 'enough". Most vintage enthusiasts are on one or two websites, & most have many kits. You hear from people who want another set, but rarely hear from someone who has...

Re: Shipping Vintage drums overseas

Years back, there were discussions about selling overseas vs. "keeping American drums in the U.S.". Part of it was in response to a strong Japanese yen, & lots of Japanese buyers coming to the...

Re: 1966 Ludwig Jazz Festival Snare - questions

Jbama, you mentioned the seam of the wrap on your JF; if it's the original wrap, then the WMP will come out of the scarf joint. When you remove the hoop, look at the top edge of the shell & you...

Re: 1966 Ludwig Jazz Festival Snare - questions

Great score. That wrap is pretty yellow, but afaik, there never was a YMP; I'm guessing yours is really WMP, but take off a rim, or a lug & you should see for yourself. Cool snare.....marko
