Re: Do You Use Vintage Hardware for Gigs?

I used to use my Ludwig flat based stands but have switched over to DW flat base for gigging. They are the same light weight but I don't worry about banging them up. And I like the low profile look.

Re: What are the tonal differences between Ludwig & Rogers?

I certainly don't disagree with any of the opinions here but as an owner of a couple of Ludwig kits and a Rogers, for the three drums I would go for the Rogers. They were so well built and have an...

Re: Three-Step Drum Polish

Do you mean NOVUS? I've bought it at aquarium stores or it's available on Amazon. It really works on freshening up faded or scratched finishes.

Re: RIP Alan White

Great drummer with Yes, taking over early on for Bill Bruford when he left to join King Crimson. Saw him live a few times and I was always amazed with how his technical precision meshed with an...

That Downbeat kit is spectacular and darn near perfect. Definitely worth holding out for. Congratulations, Gary. I know you're gonna enjoy them.

Re: Anyone Playing Out/Doing Any Live Work?

That looks like a fun gig, TommyP. On a much smaller scale, I’ve played a couple of intimate outdoor gigs and it’s been fun to just play out live. The first featured a ’71 Ludwig Downbeat kit (with...

Re: Vintage MIJ Resto

I think those turned out more than ok! They look great and I admire your ingenuity. With the right heads and tuning, those mid-60's MIJ's can sound really good. Nice work!

Re: Vintage?

In addition to my 60’s Round Badge Gretsch, 60’s Rogers and 70’s Ludwig kits, I bought a DW Collector Series kit in 2002. While different, these are really nice and great sounding drums that I enjoy...

Re: This is the Display Your Rewrapped Vintage Drums Thread

Thanks! These were rewrapped almost 15 years ago and have been played out a lot and set up and left out uncased. The original wrap was white marine pearl but time and the elements have naturally...

Re: This is the Display Your Rewrapped Vintage Drums Thread

A Mid-60's rescue project. The original Gretsch satin flame finish - and hardware - had been painted red by the last guy. Impossible to clean up due to paint-filled cracks and spiderwebs, so I opted...

Re: Vistalite bongos any thoughts?

I love that they have clear heads. Never seen that on bongos before. Nice little score.

Re: Wet sanding to remove paint from WMP

Thanks! The kit is 22/13/16. And it's been played out live a lot - because as a rewrap, I'm not at all concerned about damaging the finish. And when recorded, I've had engineers comment on the...

Re: Wet sanding to remove paint from WMP

Magnus,

I was faced with a similar dilemma. I picked up a 60's Round Badge that was painted red over the original Aqua satin finish. A crime but the reason why it only cost me $100! I tried for...

Re: Tom Placement

I think it looks fantastic the way you have it mounted. It is unmistakably "Ludwig" and i honestly doubt anyone is going to notice the badge (or the lack thereof). Play on!

Re: Gretsch RB, what heads are you using?

I've been using Aquarian American Vintage heads on my Gretsch Round Badge toms for years. They fit the slightly larger shells perfectly but more importantly, they sound and feel amazing and are very...
