Re: Ludwig 1930's Rope Tension Drum ?

ssoccer, the drum in the link the expert provided has a different badge than your drum, so it's not a perfect match. Very puzzling as the badge in the experts link, while different from yours, is...

Re: Prototypes

"Prototype" is overused, usually as a way to explain something that isn't understood. Prototype's less distinguished brother is "Made on a Monday/Made on a Friday".

Re: What are the differences between Ludwig and Slingerland shells?

Good info with a few clarifications regarding Slingerland 3-ply shells: Slingerland did not choose an inner ply based on the outer ply that was being used. There were 'inner ply' eras. Mahogany...

Re: Need a chuckle? Check this out!

Based on the woefully inadequate pictures looks to be a '55-'57 kit. "Good condition Repainted white" per the seller. I wonder what wrap is under that paint. Pricing is probably only off by one...

Re: This is the Display Your Slingerland Drums Thread

Mark, you've got examples of some of the best variations of both BDP and Blue sparkle.

Yes, that is the way I understand it to be.

Re: Slingerland 6.5x14 10 lug 3 vent BR models

IF you are referring to the '76-'77 Buddy Rich snare then 5-ply only would be expected. That Buddy Rich model was essentially a TDR Deluxe Concert King. Per Slingerland historian Dr. Carl Wenk all...

Re: Ludwig Supraphonic LM400 Question

Thin shell, have you had success with this procedure? Won't the heat required to flow solder on the shell discolor the surrounding chrome?

Re: Leedy Superior Hardwhite heads

FWIW, "Leedy Superior Hardwhite" calf heads were available into the 60's. Not sure if the logo changed or not.

Re: Vintage Rogers Snare Drum

Murf, you should ask Mark (idrum4fun) if he is interested in your drum. He will give you a fair price and, better yet, a good home for your drum.

Re: Has anyone dealt with Purdie Shuffle?

Yes, that is what any ethical seller should do. Unless the buyer arranged their own shipping, the shipper (USPS, UPS etc.) is an agent of the seller and therefore the seller is ethically responsible...

Re: Leedy Badges

Around the middle of '63 is when the shell interiors, of plied drums, changed from mahogany to clear maple. Yours could be either (or a mix of both). Mahogany-earlier '63, Maple-later '63.

Re: Leedy Badges

Good question Dan. Double sided Slingerland era Leedy lugs do have the 'bosses' (e.g. snares, center lug basses and toms). Single sided lugs seem to be predominately without 'bosses' (flat backed),...

Re: Leedy Badges

Per Slingerland historian Dr. Carl Wenk: Slingerland applied badges to Leedy toms thru 1960. NO badges on Leedy toms '61 - mid '66. Badges on Leedy toms from mid '66 onward. These patterns have...

Re: Slingerland tom air vent MIA

Mark, what is the thickness of your original Slingerland wrap? What is the thickness of a modern wrap? I've got a thickness of ~.020"-.025" for 60's Slingerland WMP wrap.

Re: Slingerland tom air vent MIA

You may not be wrong. There are reports of head fit problems when wrapping Slingerland shells that were originally natural/painted. Is it primarily pre '57 Slingerlands which were formed like the...

Re: Slingerland tom air vent MIA

This statement seems logical but can it be said without reservation that Slingerland did NOT have a means to produce different shells for use with or without a wrap? Slingerland produced their own...

Re: Slingerland tom air vent MIA

No badges/air vents on Slingerland toms till June 1966. The "P" indicates the drum would be wrapped as opposed to a natural finish or paint. The interior of your drum would be expected to be...

Re: Rogers Collet Thread Size?

Exactly, it's the cone and taper design that provides the holding force. If you're replacing a collet nut you need to know the thread diameter, the thread pitch AND the collet type and taper. As I...

Re: Rogers Collet Thread Size?

You need the correct collet nuts not just any nut with the same thread. Why not contact the person you got the kit from? I thought in another thread you said he was "THE Rodgers guy"? Perhaps he...
