WTB: Gretsch Sunset Satin Flame Floor Tom

Tough request I know, but recently picked up 2/3 kit with 20" BD and 12" rack tom. If there's an orphan 16" FT (even if wrap is not in best shape or even if the drum has extra holes), I'm interested....

Re: Shelly Manne snares

All good! I had never heard of a Reliance so...learn something new every day. I was told by the person who gave it to me that he put stick choppers on it himself - maybe the prior hoops were stick...

Re: Shelly Manne snares

Mark: Here goes! It came with some modern stick choppers on it. I found a Slingerland stick saver from 70s for batter; reso is just a random flanged hoop.

Re: Shelly Manne snares

I have a red sparkle Leedy blue badge Shelley Manne snare from 1965. To my eyes (and ears) it's basically a Slingerland Hollywood Ace model with nicer lugs and a better (to me at least) strainer....

Re: Budget-line drums from the Big Four?

Gretsch's single lug equivalent of Stage Band, Luxor and Club Date was called a "Playboy". It's the only of the four I've never seen in person, but if I ever found one in olive or sunset satin flame,...

I have a D-471 (wood) in Kristall Schwarz wrap for sale. I can't get the pics to upload, I'll send a PM in a bit.

Re: Grestch Olive Satin Flame Kit

Man tell me about it! I read a story of someone who got one last year and stripped it for natural finish saying the wrap was beat to death. I saw a pic of the set - it wasn't any worse than any satin...

Grestch Olive Satin Flame Kit

Seller's remorse hits hard sometimes! Sold one of these years ago and as of recent realized I probably shouldn't have but...bills were bills. The RB/SSB "rock N roll" configuration or a regular...

Re: Premier 250(S) pedals

Got it. My 'sliding' is kind of an arch-toe thing than a toe slide but it's definitely something to consider. Will give it more thought and look more closely at it. Thanks again for the info.

Re: Premier 250(S) pedals

This actually helps! I only play heel down for quiet intricate stuff and use more sliding motions and the heel plate always takes away the active sections of the board as I have a 13 foot. It sounds...

Re: Premier 250(S) pedals

Thanks. I have all vintage drums but very little vintage hardware sans snare stands. I typically play Yamaha FP-6110A pedals, which are modern and simple, but I dislike Iron Cobras, DW 5000s etc....

Re: Premier 250(S) pedals

Thanks all. Great Moon flick! They're pretty cheap when they pop up so I'll give one a try.

Premier 250(S) pedals

I discovered these pedals by accident while looking at Premier 252 pedals. Apparently Keith Moon played these for awhile. Anyone have any experience with one? The 250 is the rounded footboard and the...

Re: ASBA Caroline Pedals

Thanks for the feedback, that helps a lot! I think the reason I like the vintage pedals is because the designs were so simple (thus I use the cheap Yamahas and entry level pedals now). Too much...

ASBA Caroline Pedals

I stumbled across these in an article about Mitch Mitchell and dug deeper and everything written about these pedals has been favorable. I play 2 cheap Yamaha strap pedals but was looking for another...

WTB: Premier 252 DIRECT DRIVE bass drum pedal

Not the strap version. Preferably in the US, as shipping a pedal this weight will cost! Thanks.

Re: Hollywood Meazzi Chrome Snares?

I saw one on Ebay and it was up for the longest - it sold recently. Possibly the same one? I ended up buying an Italian "Fran Co." 10 lug steel snare on here 2 years ago. Great all purpose snare and...

Re: Sonor Teardrop 2

Love that "TV" wrap, great set. I think that finish was discontinued right as they switched to 6 ply. There may be orphan drums with 6 ply in some transition sets because that's usually how it went,...

FOR SALE: Rogers Red Onyx 12" Tom

I initially listed this with an MIJ set with a similar wrap but figured I'd list it on its own.

Early Fullerton era (circa 1969-70) Rogers 12" rack tom. Red Onyx finish has some scuffs but...

Re: Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste

Yup! Betty Harris' "There's a Break in The Road" is a clinic in linear swamp funk. That was James Black also I'm 99% sure. To play with that much grease and control while being so syncopated at such...

Re: Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste

One of my favorite drummers of all time. For another funky New Orleans cat, check out James Black. He was also an accomplished jazz drummer. But his funk game is very top shelf on Eddie Bo's "Hook...

Re: Why Play Vintage?

Vintage Pros: Usually lighter shells and not an overkill on the bulky, tank-like hardware - Tone controls (I personally love them, some hate them) - wraps are a lot more unique - more visually...
