Re: Where is everyone?

I’m here, checking in every week or so. Life is busy, and the posts here are less frequent, so I’m checking in less often. I still appreciate reading good threads.

Re: Used kit flips

I have actually bought a couple of those SP 12/15/20 kits for students. They sound surprisingly good!

Re: Maybe legit... but may not

I've tried this numerous times. It's never happened, because it's a scam. Now, I don't even bother.

Re: Drum shop with the largest inventory of vintage drums.

Since you're in Selma, you're only 4.5 hours away from Portland. I would recommend you take the journey up north and visit Revival Drum Shop!

Re: Removing Wrap?

I removed a chrome wrap once. Despite working slow and careful with a heat gun and putty knife, it didn't remove cleanly, and some chunks of wood came off of the shell.

Never again.

If you...

Re: Help please--paper tags, and what model is my Rogers?

Thanks for the info! I will check for tag residue.

Powertone shells, you say? Okay. How would I know that? Is that just what they called their shells during this time? Again--I'm a complete...

Re: Help please--paper tags, and what model is my Rogers?

So, you're saying there are no named configurations for Rogers drums. Got it. Thanks!

As a Ludwig guy, I know that the old Ludwig catalogs listed names for certain configurations/sizes. If I...

Help please--paper tags, and what model is my Rogers?

Hey all! I have a 1973 Rogers kit with 12" and 13" mounted toms, a 16" floor tom, and a 24" bass drum. I tried looking in the Rogers drum catalogs, linked to from this site, and I had no luck...

Re: Looking for info and value 22" ride

22" A Medium Rides typically sell for around $120-140 where I live. They sit for weeks on craigslist for $150.

Re: Tom Placement

I've used many different mounting systems over the years on my kits. It's all about the individual drums. I have a 12x8 Ludwig 3-ply tom that sounds good with the mount. I have another 12x8 that...

Re: Gretsch RB, what heads are you using?

Yes. I used these heads on mine as well, as modern-sized heads didn't fit.

Re: Questions about recent selling of vintage drum sets

I've bought and sold a few times during this, um, unique time. To be safe, wear masks and gloves and do the transaction outside. Some people want to do a PayPal/Venmo transaction, and that's fine,...

Re: Celebrating 14 years on VDF!

A great "family" to be a part of, indeed! 11 years, myself. It's been wonderful to get to learn and pass around knowledge for all this time!

Re: My First Vintage Cymbal

I am! I'm not actively hunting online, but I'm on the lookout, locally and when I'm on tour.

Congrats on the 16! I can't wait to hear how you think it sounds in your setup!

Re: My First Vintage Cymbal

I happened upon a Kashian 20" ride that I just had to buy. To me, it DOES sound like a vintage A. It's a little on the heavy side, so it has clear definition, but unlike the A rides of comparable...

Re: Mexican Made PDP Drums

I have had many of these kits pass through my hands, as I help students buy drum sets. The CX, LX, and MX series kits are great-sounding drums! I like them more than I liked my old DW kit. I had...

Re: Snare Wire Buzz!

The heads on a well-timed drum will sympathetically resonate with other frequencies. In order to eliminate the snare buzz, you'll have to remedy that, or learn to live with it. :)

I'm curious to...

Re: Does it have to match?

My snare never matches my kit, wrap-wise. I bought a silver sparkle snare to match my silver sparkle kit, but the silver sparkle snare better matches, tonally, the gold sparkle kit. Go figure...
