Re: Slingerland 16x16 Pink sparkle floor tom

Very good, I didn't think it was an 18" or 20" as stated in the add. Congrats.

Re: Slingerland 16x16 Pink sparkle floor tom

I was also surprised to see Sparkling Pink available that late. The Dr. called it too. http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/drcjw/article_4_finishes14.htm

Re: Slingerland 16x16 Pink sparkle floor tom

'Interesting' was not the first word that came to mind the first time I encountered a "buyer's premium". (LOL)

Sparkling Pink was still shown as late as the '67 catalog.

Re: Slingerland 16x16 Pink sparkle floor tom

Essentially the buyer pays an additional 18% of the final bid price. For example, if final bid is $100.00 then buyer actually pays $118.00.

Re: Slingerland 16x16 Pink sparkle floor tom

Don't forget the 18% buyer's premium. Serial number suggests 1968.

Re: Need help identifying an old 28" bass drum!

Sorry, don't know what brand that lug is, but it is not Slingerland.

Re: any idea what this finish is called Pearl drums

Great wrap. Reminiscent of Camco's 3D Moire.

Re: Slingerland Set-o-Matic receiver placement

The placement of the set-o-matic on the WMP bass drum does not look out of line for a late 60's drum (black/brass badge). In the 70's the location moved more toward the center of the bass. With the...

It is here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/203792507896?hash=item2f72fae3f8:g:RkcAAOSwUjth4wXx These BOP snares were available for over a decade. This one on eBay has the '50-'53 brass oval badge and...

Plenty of examples really (some successful): Fibes, Blaemire, Vistalites, Pearl phenolics and even this Ludwig snare

Re: Shelly Manne snares

Tommyp, that's a stellar looking drum. May I ask how you narrowed the date to 1963?

Re: Shelly Manne snares

I'm with Mark (and thin shell), it is a nice drum. Who doesn't like the Leedy lugs and red sparkle wrap? Hopefully Jay_M is okay with drum minutiae talk.

Re: Shelly Manne snares

I concur with thin shell on the model identification. Adding to his comments, that particular badge is said to have been used from '58-'61 by Slingerland historian Dr. Wenk. Badge placement to the...

Re: Shelly Manne snares

Jay_M, how did you arrive at a '65 date for your drum? I ask because the badge on your drum is usually associated with an earlier date.

Re: Shelly Manne snares

I agree with Mark. The '58-'61 "Gene Krupa" model would be the most comparable to the same era "Shelly Manne" snare although there are still several differences as Mark noted. The '58-'61 "Gene...

Re: Please help to identify this Slingerland snare drum

A few items of interest on this drum: The uncommon placement of the badge to the right of the strainer occurred from the summer of '60 to the spring of '61 (per Dr. Wenk) with the tone control being...

Re: Please help to identify this Slingerland snare drum

The "M" stamp and mahogany interior identify the shell as a 3-ply.

Re: Help id'ing Paiste Formula 602 preserial

Not a '59-'61 according to this timeline (looks to be '65-'72):

Re: Radio King opinion needed

Just on a quick glance there are some 'red flags' here. The tom in the foreground has post '55 lugs and there is a distinct possibility all those drums have been rewrapped. The tom in the...
