Re: How have your drum sets evolved over the years?

First kit was a Japanese Kimberly blue sparkle (bass tom and snare) in the early 70s. Added some random Gretsch pieces. Moved to a nice white 6 piece Premier kit in the mid 70s. Still have that...

Re: What are the correct snares for Slingerland zoomatic

Thanks! I like the idea of the half extended wires. I did some experimenting and if it is not right, you can lose contact with the head which totally defeats the purpose.

What are the correct snares for Slingerland zoomatic

Referring to 60s/70s era. From various pictures it appears that the snares should pass thru the rim on the butt side and and just before the rim on the throwoff side. Does that equate to a 14 inch...

Re: Got my bearing edges recut on vintage premiers

Thanks!!! They have been with me since the mid 70s. They were originally white. After all the years they developed yellow splotches so I rewrapped them in chrome. That enabled adding the 22" bass...

Re: Got my bearing edges recut on vintage premiers

There were definitely spots that were not level or no edge. All that nasty stuff on the left came out.

Got my bearing edges recut on vintage premiers

Brought a 22" bass drum, 12, 13, 14" toms to Precision Drum company in Pleasant Valley NY and wow-cool experience to witness and great sound afterwards
None of the drums had even bearing surfaces to...

Re: Premier Drums

I've had my premier kit since the mid 70s. Mahogany shells sound really nice. Chrome plating top notch, 2000 snare has a mechanism that works like a supersensitive, cast low profile rims, beautiful...

Re: Help indenitifing slingerland snare

Nice drum for sure. Brass shell for sure as mentioned. The TRD strainer is a plus with snares extending past the edge of the resonant head-giving more sensitive response. With the more common...

Re: What were the most innovative designs from each vintage company?

Not sure if Pearl was the true first, but the introduction of plastic liners on cymbals stand height adjustment rather than metal on metal squeezing or a screw going into a metal tube was great.
I...

Slingerland Universal Snare drum?

Just bought this drum. Appears to be nickel with the slim rim clips. Had to make 5 clips to hold the head on. Sounds quite nice! Cleaned up beautiful. This should be around 1940 ish?

Re: Uneven lug spacing on Slingerland snare

Were "seconds" ever released?
Agreed-QC should have rejected that one.
It would have been difficult to put the rims on the first time.
The snare sounds great by the way...

Re: Uneven lug spacing on Slingerland snare

When I first noticed this, I did take the lugs off and measure with a soft tape measure. The punched holes are off for sure. They do not looks egged out or anything. Perfect nice holes, just...

Re: Uneven lug spacing on Slingerland snare

ok. got my act together with some pictures. In the first two, the distances are measured between lugs; in the third, the result of the uneven spacing is angled tension rods in some spots. The worst...

Re: Uneven lug spacing on Slingerland snare

Hi Mark,
The holes do look punched neatly, not drilled. I did measure to confirm. Pictures are worth 1000 words. I will get some posted.

Uneven lug spacing on Slingerland snare

I have a mid 70s 10 llug COB 6.5 x 14 slingerland snare, zoomatic throwoff. Gene Krupa sound king?
Anyway-the lugs are clearly not spaced evenly such that some of the tension rods need to be...

Re: Re-wrap Seams (Use glue or tape?)

I used the tape and have not been pleased with how it lasts. The seams seem to come partly unstuck over time. The tape worked easily to begin with tho..
Rewrapped my 1970s Premiers.
