Zildjian Stamp Question...

I have a nice little 11" Paper thin Splash (276G).. pretty sure I bought it early 70s. Just looked at the stamp and noticed that the top section (Turkish) is way off of centre left of the "Zildjian made in USA" text... So the question is were two individual stamps used?? . From what I can see it's the "Small 70's Thin Stamp".

Also notice that they made two attempts with the lower section.. Having just a small "Z" stamped just above & left of the AVEDIS. (This cymbal is so thin that the imprint is almost as legible from the underside)..

Cheers

John

If the top is way off center from the English part it's probably 30's-40's made. Even the size is more consistent with early stamped cymbals. I have some where the top part is even upside down.

Agreed. This is seen on what are commonly called First and Second stamp models, some of the earlier Avedis Zildjian cymbals.

Well thanks gents... in the back of my head I do recall something about it being "New Old Stock" at the time of purchase.. Had thought maybe only a few years though... I'll try and post a pic up for your further opinions.. Very very faint stamp though..

Cheers

I'd be really interested to see a picture if you can manage it. Here are some examples and a discussion:

This is the simple version with "first" and "second". The next layer of complexity is here:

Given the larger pics in my gallery, as well as my annotations on how to distinguish the stamps Bill Hartrick named in his original article, it shouldn't be hard to identify yours. And the 1970s stamp is fairly easy to spot compared to the others (whatever the era):

And of course if we are really lucky Bill (Drumaholic) will comment on this himself.

Well took advantage of a nice sunny Friday morning... Hear that guys ?

A sunny Friday after a couple of weeks of rain..

So here's the stamp.. I have to put it to the experts.. as much as I'm learning .. I still don't know much on cymbal timelining...

For lack of better terminology...Second stamp. The lower i in Zildjian is the telltale sign for that one.

Thanks very much Mike...Early 40's am surprised...

So I had another look at Zen's link and can see it now... the larger diamond is now glaring at me too... Had not really considered looking back so far.. always thought it may have possibly been a 60's..

Not that I haven't done so.. but I will treat it with a little more respect in future.. it is a special sounding little thingo...

Cheers

Must be NOOOS not just NOS. New Old Old Old Stock.

And it looks to me like one of the two relatively rare combinations I've been looking for. That's looking like a "first" top (Ottoman) section and a "second" (English) section. Even though your Ottoman portion is incomplete, the chunky style of the lines suggests "first". The "second" Ottoman portion has finer lines.

Yes Steve... Old Old..but was nice & new looking when I bought it... As I say, very surprised at it's age. But funny thing about the sound of it.. Even though it sat mid BD through a couple of decades of 70-80's Rock.. plus another 15 years of Country rock.. it always sounded a bit old school, as if it would sound more at home splashing away on some Dixieland...

Thanks for your help, and if you would like some higher res pics just let me know...

Cheers
