Zildjian Help - dating and indentifying

Loading...

Hey guys, I just grabbed this off ebay this week. Seemed like a decent deal and I was in the market for a Zildjian ride to complete my all Zildjian setup. The cymbal is in great shape, sounds pretty good, its dark and a little washy. The bell is very loud and a little harsh. I'm not so sure this is a ride, but theres no markings to indicate either way. It doesnt really sound like a crash though either :(

If any one can help identifying this that would be cool. Theres something written between Zildjian Co. and Turkish Cymbals that I cant really make out. IT actually shows up better in the pic thatn it does to the naked eye. Looks like the first 4 letters are CENT, but after that I cant tell. On the bottom is the hollow Zildjian logo, which to my understanding is a 70's/80's thing.

Overall, for what I was looking for in a ride, this doesnt really do it for me, but I'm bringing it to rehearsal this week to see how it plays with the band anyway.

Here is a little info on the cymbal site I have not worked on in over a year.

What style of music are you playing? That will help determine the type of cymbal that would best fit your style.

The weight of the ride will make a big diffference and will help you find something closer to what you want.

Thanks for the reply, the guy who sold me the cymbal actually sent me to your link last week!

Anyway, as for style of music, we play everything from Motown to Rage Against the Machine and a lot in between. We've got a very eclectic mix of tunes. I've been playing a Sabian HH 20 Inch Medium Ride that I bought new last year, that I really don't care for much either. It cuts through, but it washes out too quick for me. However, I do think it might play better than this Zildjian.

I played it for a few tunes at rehearsal. It's not cutting it for me. Though its a really sold cymbal in excellent shape, it sounds more like a crash/ride and I need more ride than crash! If anyone wants it let me know via PM or reply to this post.
