Zildjian Avedis hat weight question

Loading...

Hey all, I have a set of hats left over from an old set I sold a few years back. I don't know a lot about vintage stuff but after I did a search here, have dated them to the 70,s made in the US. Compared to all the listed weights for other peoples hats of the same era, mine are anvils at 1316 and 1024 grams.

My question is: Are different weights desired more for different types of playing or is lighter or heavier more desired?

those might even be "new beats" with the weight spread. or they could just be a lighter and heavier cymbal. pretty common for that era. the different weights like that generally give you a more profound "chick" sound between the two cymbals. back in the 50's and even into the 60's many cymbals were matched near the same weight. I think both combinations sound good.

What size are these? The weights are close to my 15" early 70s.
