Zildjian A 20-incher... 1950s?

Loading...

Hey guys,

I've had this guy for about 7 years or so. I picked it up off of a guy for $50. I brought it to the local shop and the drum guy said it was probably 60s or 70s... but now after a little reading I'm more convinced it may be a lot older.

What say you?

Different Angle

Some Keyholeing

a few minor 1-2mm dents in the outer edge... and it has a small dent in the "ride" area... otherwise pretty nice for it's age

Weighs in at 1925 grams... has a nice complex tone and crashes well...

It's got a bit of a warble to it when hit... and it's not totally flat.

I baby it none-the-less

Looks like a trans-stamp to me, 1940's-1950's

Also a trans stamp, early 50's. There's very few of these don't have at least some warp factor to them. It comes almost as a given with the hand hammering.

What's $67 inflated to today's dollar?

I paid $50 about 7 years ago... let somebody else break it in. ;)

Would it be a bad idea to heave the outer edge smoothed/trued by Saluda?

I'm just afraid one of the nicks/dents may start to crack at some point... smoothing the edge should prevent this, no?

Also, the center hole is a tad small to fit on a standard 8mm post with a sleeve. Would it be totally sacrilege to have the hole professionally enlarged to fix this... it will also help to lessen the keyholing too.

No, it won't

Yes, it would be sacrilege

Leave it as is, it's character, age, whatever you want to call it, it is what it is. Once you change something old, it's devalued and not as much as a collectible.

I guess I should invest in some 6mm stands for these vintage cymbals ;)

If I ever got the edge smoothed I wonder if anybody could really tell? I know y'all would say you could but...

Guesstimate $225.00 to $275.00 on a good day
