Zildjian 13" Hi Hat question

Loading...

I picked up another interesting pair of hats today. 13" this time. They look to be 1960's based on the stamp but I'm not 100% sure. Top cymbal weighs 930g and the bottom weighs 1050g. No "zildjian" ink anywhere but on the top surface of the top hat is inked "medium" and on the inside surface of the bottom is inked "medium concert". I haven't seen this "concert" ink before. I'm pretty sure these are indeed hi hats based on where the ink stamps are. I don't know anything about concert cymbals but I assumed they'd be suspended or something?? Any insight much appreciated.

Does yours also say "concert" instead of "hi hat"? I've never seen "concert" inked on a cymbal before.

Someone was recently selling a pair of 15" cymbals that were marked Concert Band on eBay.

Interesting. Mine don't say "band" on them. Those auction 15's look like 1950's era (lack of 3 dots).

Yes those 15's do look like 50s small stamps. I've seen plenty of ink designations of cymbal types going back much earlier than that (at least to Trans Stamps) owned by collectors. It was one of the major innovations by the Avedis Zildjian Company. But I've never known much about them. The answer would probably be in old Catalogs (or scans of old Catalogs).

I don't know the difference between "CONCERT" and "CONCERT BAND" in terms of weight or function, but the font looks familiar. And both would tend to be heavier than the High Hats back then. But they should be more like the High Hat weights in more modern times and certainly suitable for use on a drum kit.
